On the Situation of Sudanese Nationals in Egypt
The widespread arrests and inhumane detention conditions faced by Sudanese nationals in Egypt are unacceptable and deeply concerning. These violations have targeted Sudanese citizens residing legally as well as asylum seekers, who are being treated as criminals and placed in facilities that lack the most basic standards of human dignity.
Reports indicate that some detainees are being held in open military yards without shelter, food, or water for up to 72 hours, subjected to humiliation, and forced into menial cleaning labor to serve military personnel and facilities. Others are crammed into police holding cells and criminal prisons, in clear violation of national laws and international conventions.
Additionally, Sudanese nationals are facing threats from organ traffickers and fraudsters, further making Egypt an unsafe country for them. The ongoing war has revealed that the so-called “Brotherhood of the Nile Valley” is nothing more than shifting interests, and that the attitude of superiority and guardianship must end immediately.
We call on the Egyptian authorities to immediately halt these violations, and to guarantee the protection and dignity of Sudanese nationals on its territory, in line with humanitarian and international legal obligations
