Deliberative Workshop on Sudanese Dialogue Held with Participation of Political Leaders
Port Sudan hosted today the sessions of the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Workshop, organized by the Future Movement for Reform and Development. The event was attended by several leaders of political parties, community figures, civil society organizations, academics, and independent personalities, all supporting the national approach to dialogue as the most effective means of addressing the country’s crises.
Dr. Al-Rasheed Mohamed Ibrahim, an academic, presented an opening paper on the theme of the workshop, “Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue.” He emphasized that dialogue is the most viable method for resolving conflicts and must be directed strategically to safeguard national sovereignty.
Dr. Al-Rasheed also underscored that the dialogue process should exclude no one, except those facing judicial convictions. His paper recommended the preservation of national unity, effective management of Sudan’s diversity, and the adoption of a political process that fosters strategic transformation, ensuring that politics serves the security and stability of the country.
During the workshop, the Secretary-General of the Future Movement for Reform and Development, Mr. Mohamed Al-Amin Ahmed, called for robust safeguards against foreign interference to ensure the success of the dialogue. He also urged political forces to abandon preconditions and exclusions while emphasizing the necessity of societal reconciliation to heal the divisions caused by the country’s ongoing crises.
Furthermore, the Secretary-General stressed that the dialogue must be preceded by a preparatory phase, with consensus on its agenda and committees, in addition to clarity on the entity responsible for organizing it—whether political forces, the current authorities, or both. He asserted that political parties must demonstrate both the will and capability to engage in the dialogue.
Representatives of participating political forces affirmed that the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue pertains strictly to the political track and does not encompass military matters. They also emphasized that negotiations with the Rapid Support Forces militia fall outside this political dialogue framework.
Speakers further highlighted the significant challenges facing Sudan, including foreign interference. They insisted that the dialogue must be purely Sudanese, driven by national will, and free from external influence to enable Sudanese stakeholders to reach mutual understandings on their national issues.
The workshop concluded with the presentation of recommendations submitted by participants, with a commitment to sharing them with all political forces and the Sudanese public.
