Mekki ELMOGRABI:
It seems that Trump’s Africa team is incomplete. There is a real need for a figure like Mark Burns to be appointed as Trump’s envoy to Africa or his top aide. He is a person who combines faith and politics, and who loves both America and Africa, widely respected in both sides.
In the discussion that took place with five African presidents at the White House, 9th July 2025, I can’t be hypocrite to say Trump was polite, no he wasn’t, and I won’t defend that he doesn’t know the fact that Liberia is more Anglophone and American than some cities in sanctuary states in US. Liberia’s political system was established by America, it is normal that it’s president speaks English better than some liberal who are illegal immigrants in US. But even with that, Trump and the conservatives are far better than the Democrats by a wide margin. Once, we had a Black president whose father was a Kenyan Muslim, and he ruled the United States for eight years — only to visit us in Africa at the end of his term and encourage us to accept same-sex marriage. We gained nothing from Obama and his emotional speeches about Africa and black people.
Let us instead go with Trump’s pragmatic, transactional mindset — even if he doesn’t know all 55 African Union membres. Still, the Africa team in the White House must be improved.
