Urgent Humanitarian Appeal from the Chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army Regarding the Catastrophic landslide in Tarsin village of central Jebel Marra
The Sudanese people, local communities and the world at large have all followed with deep emotional turmoil the horrific humanitarian disaster that occurred on 31st of August 2025, in Tarsin village which located in Umo area of central Jebbel Marra.
However; the catastrophic landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, completely destroyed the village, wiping it off the face of the earth and resulting in the death of all one thousand inhabitants – except for a single survivor, accordingly; the scale and magnitude of the disaster are immense and defy description which necessitate putting at work and coordinating efforts of local, regional and international actors, including the deployment of specialized rescue teams to recover bodies from beneath the rocky debris.
Moreover, nearby villagers were overwhelmed with fear that a similar fate might befall them if the extreme precipitation and torrential rainfall persisted, which underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive evacuation plan and provision of emergency shelter for those at risk.
Therefore, I, the chairman of the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army urgently appeal to the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as to all regional and international organizations to intervene without delay and provide immediate assistance to help save the lives of thousands of civilians currently at risk due to the ongoing landslides.
Lastly, I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs of Tarsin village in this immense tragedy. We ask God to grant them mercy and rest their sacred souls in eternal peace in his paradise of greenery with the Martyrs and the faithfuls.
