The UN Secretary General has been completely absent on Sudan for years, now the day before a Security Council meeting Guterres calls Burhan so that he can report that he’s making progress. This feels like he’s covering his ass. Where has he been the last 6 months?

Responding to the UNSG’s appeal, Sudan’s Sovereignty Council Chairperson has agreed to a week-long humanitarian pause in El-Fashir and urged full implementation of Security Council resolution 2736.
